Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has told investigators that he and his brother viewed the Internet sermons of the notorious preacher Anwar al-Awlaki. As investigators go through with a fine-tooth comb through the lives of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev trying to comprehend their radicalization and plunge into senseless aggression, one evidence roughly seemed accepted that both the brothers were influenced by the Internet sermons of Anwar al-Awlaki. He was the pied piper of the lost generation of Islam. Narrative of 'innocence of political Islam' sells very well with these young politicised confused Jihadists raised on seeing the war of terror over the last decade. The godly promises of re-establishment of global authority of caliphate is a hallucinated dream they pursue and it sells well with aimless wanderers like Tsarnaevs.
Muslims are vigorous contestants on the large-scale stage not as toothless foot soldiers, rather one strain run common in all Islamic fundamentalist movements from Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, Al-Qaeda and TTP; the wish to fashion a broad based Muslim caliphate. Conventional Muslim beliefs and perceptions are underlying cause of an underlying anger and rage, rage of inability to control vast swathes of the lands of infidels.
Professor Karsh's rejects the customary hypothesis that Western Colonialism created the grave plague of Islamic fanaticism stretching from Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Indonesia. The author writes that the principal origin of Islamic radicalism is not merely a reaction to the Western prying in their nations affairs but rather a profound and ingrained craving in the predetermined Islamic belief to expand Islamic authority throughout the world. Karsh says that "Arabs and Muslims unabashedly dream for the restoration of Spain" under Muslim control even though Spain has been lost to the Islamic world for centuries since the Fall of Granada in 1492. Osama bin Laden himself lamentably referred to "the tragedy of Andalusia" after the September 11, 2001 attacks as if to suggest that Muslims were still the legitimate and equitable owners of Spain rather than measly invading occupiers. Same is the feeling of Lashker-e- Tyaaba and TTP vis a vis Hindustan in Pakistan. The desire of unfurling the Mughal flag on the Red Fort never dies.
The American - New Mexico born radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was killed" by a missile fired from a U.S. aircraft at a convoy of vehicles. The secret drone base in Saudi Arabia was ready, and they eventually had intel on al-Awlaki's location. Anwar al-Awlaki was killed on Sept. 30, 2011 in a CIA drone strike in Yemen, the first known time a U.S.-controlled drone strike deliberately targeted and killed an American citizen. In a separate attack Denver born his son a teenager Abdulrahman al-Awlaki was killed just two weeks later whilst he was he was with their actual target, Egyptian al Qaeda operative Ibrahim al-Banna. The Obama administration found itself scrambling to determine what went wrong. There was no evidence linking Abdulrahman to any terrorist plot. They also mistakenly stated Abdulrahman's age to be 21, leading the al-Awlaki family to release the boy's birth certificate.
The charismatic cleric was seen by the Obama administration as a uniquely dangerous terrorist because of his sermons (delivered in fluent, American-inflected English), his intuitive grasp of U.S. culture, and a burning desire to strike his birth nation. His killing prompted praise from Obama, who called it a "major blow to al Qaeda's most active operational affiliate." The September. 30th, 2011 drone strike that killed Anwar al-Awlaki and his associate Samir Khan has been the focus of intense debate on the legality of the killing an American on foreign soil for the last three years. Telegraph reported that Awlaki’s side-kick, ''American Samir Khan, was also a significant concern because of the slick online magazine he has started producing called Inspire, which has included articles such as “how to make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom.”
In the second edition of the magazine, published last month, the 24 year-old former resident of North Carolina and New York City, wrote an article in which he said “I am proud to be a traitor to America” and described himself as “al-Qaeda to the core.” It is the inspiration the pair offered to “lone-wolf” operators that had caused MI5 and MI6 concern, coupled with the direct advice Awlaki offered to Umar Farouq Abdulmutallab, the failed Detroit bomber, who tried to blow himself up using a device hidden in his underpants on Christmas Day. Jonathan Evans, the director general of MI5, said of Awlaki: “His influence is all the wider because he preaches and teaches in the English language which makes his message easier to access and understand for Western audiences.” “There is a real risk that one of his adherents will respond to his urging to violence and mount an attack in the UK, possibly acting alone and with little formal training.” It turned to be so true, with a benefit of hindsight one can suggest that Anwar Awlaki recruited jihadists like Tsarnaevs from beyond the grave!
Who was Al-Awlaki: Anwar Awlaki was Global Terrorists Inc’s new mega-star. In his death too he remains such an fatal attraction. Behind this eye of the hurricane of religious radicalism lie people like Anwar al-Aulaqi (or al-Awlaki). Born April 22, 1971 (1971-04-22) in Las Cruces, New Mexico, he was an American Muslim lecturer, spiritual leader, and former imam. As of early 2010, he was thought to be living in Yemen. His parents are from Yemen. Al-Awlaki's father, Nasser al-Aulaqi, earned his master's degree in agricultural economics at New Mexico State University (1971), received a doctorate at the University of Nebraska, and worked at the University of Minnesota from 1975 to 1977. He was a big admirer of Charles Dickens, and abhors Shakespeare. The US-born Awlaki read English classics during his 18 months behind bars in a prison in Sana’a, Yemen; the guards had forbidden him from reading the Islamic text he preferred, so read English novels. His comments on Charles Dickens were: ''I read Hard Times thrice. So, I ordered more Charles Dickens and read Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, and his masterpiece: David Copperfield. I read this one twice.'' For Shakespeare, his comments were callous. ''Shakespeare was the worst thing I read during my entire stay in prison. I never liked him to start with. Probably the only reason he became so famous is because he was English and had the backing and promotion of the speakers of a global language.''
Awlaki’s is the story of a big 'turnaround of mind' post 911 when he gave numerous interviews to the press: 'About killing, the greatest sin in Islam after associating other gods besides Allah is killing an innocent soul.' His Islamic education consisted of a few intermittent months with various scholars, and reading works by several prominent Islamic scholars. Muslim scholars say they do not understand his popularity. Although al‑Awlaki lacks formal Islamic training or study, he spoke fluent English and could therefore reach a large non-Arabic-speaking audience. Writing on the IslamOnline.net website six days after the 9/11 attacks, Awlaki suggested that Israeli intelligence agents might have been responsible for the attacks, and that the FBI "went into the roster of the airplanes and whoever has a Muslim or Arab name became the hijacker by default." The FBI conducted extensive investigations of al-Awlaki, and he was observed crossing state lines with prostitutes in the D.C. area. To arrest him, the FBI considered invoking the little-used Mann Act, a federal law prohibiting interstate transport of women for "immoral purposes." But before investigators could detain him, al-Awlaki left for Yemen in March 2002.
He authored an essay in Arabic titled "Why Muslims Love Death" on the Islam Today website, praising the Palestinian suicide bombers' fervor, and months later at a videotaped lecture in a London mosque, he lauded them in English. Known for giving eloquent talks on Islam and attracting young non-Arabic speakers, al-Awlaki "was the magic bullet," according to mosque spokesman Johari Abdul-Malik; "He had everything all in a box." "He had an allure. He was charming." His wicked footprints are visible all over the entire expanse of Global Terror Inc. His sermons were attended by two of the 9/11 hijackers (Al-Hazmi, and Hani Hanjour), which the 9/11 Commission Report concluded "may not have been coincidental", and by Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan. When police investigating the 9/11 attacks raided the Hamburg, Germany, apartment of Ramzi Binalshibh (the "20th hijacker"), his telephone number was found among Binalshibh's personal contact information.
Anwar al Awlaki eloquently articulated a menace that was far more incriminating, venomous and mind-boggling for millions of 'wayward Muslim youth' looking for a direction from an ideology that roots in the hinterland of the thousands year old traditions, culture and sights of deserts of Nejd in contrast to a world that has moved on to a new cusp of take-off. In this age of knowledge Awalki presented the option of dragging the 1.4 billion faithful to the 'virtues' of the dark ages with a persuasiveness that was unmatched.
The blazing question within the nation of Islam arises and one that the entire ‘nation’ wants to know quick answers is: what turns youthful, elegant well-educated men like Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Feisal Shazad, Ajmal Amir, Mohammad Siddiq Khan, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab into terminators and hate-mongers who are bent to kill indiscriminately? Awalaki command of English helps to romanticise killings as a merited virtue; it wrongly instil the basic techniques of terror 101 and venom in the minds of confused, vulnerable young men. The paradox that mankind faces today is that this rising tentacles of malice, poison and contaminated minds is on the rise in an age where human history is witnessing violence going downhill by dramatic degrees. In this exceptional age of information; Awlaki message of disgust is an attempt to haul mankind back in to the age of ignorance and antiquated practices.
This cancer stems and flourishes in a society that refuses to deal with challenge of terror with comprehensible precision, intelligibility and outright condemnatory denunciation. It is double standards of sermons from the pulpits every Friday where bloodhounds of terror are given a leash of life and a breathing space. Legitimacy and warrant to slay to even the score of the 'lost glory of Islam' is the clarion call. Restoration of galloping old glory on horseback is such an unflattering relentless campaign of jihad. There is a reason why even the most liberal will be the most hardened ideologue. Silent majority doesn't mind supremacy of Islam and regaining of the paradise lost of the Caliphate where Islam reigned supreme. It is dreams of rediscovering the history of Islam's golden age and the re-conquest of the world, like old Spain, that propels many lunatics to impose the 'will of Allah' on the unwilling. This is not about terror, rather this is about imposing a way of life through a 'regime of terror'.
Instead let’s nurture understanding of different cultures and creeds. People have to understand that they need to come out of this self-imposed ignorance and stop the prevalent culture of blaming others for their own backwardness. I just don’t see why should million of other young men suffer for mental depravity of one demented thought, many others have dreams too; there are those who want an education in these universities and want to be faithful and reliable. Such act of treachery, betrayal, fickleness and infidelity closes the doors to everyone? Living in the 21st century is living with all and sundry; no exclusion can be possible on the basis of a radical agenda of revulsion. Abhorrence has no place in a society that revels on its freedom of expression. Take your tent of hatred and plant it somewhere in a desert where such cerebral degeneracy and decadence may nurture like a excruciating cactus.
The wish to repair Islam's past medieval regal glories and convert the world permeate the approach of a substantial portion/segment of the Muslims. Prophet of Islam himself shaped the contemporary political Islam when he said "to strive for a new universal order in which the whole of humanity would embrace Islam or live under its domination." Muhammad's dream was realised after his death with the growth of Islamic power from Arabia into North Africa, Turkey, Spain and Central Asia under ensuing Caliphs of Umayyads, the Abbasids and the Ottomans. This yearning to widen Islam's global reach and rebuild a global Islamic caliphate under Muslim rule helps to explain 9/11. September 11 was a reaction to the essential veracity that America's place as a great power essentially suspend all " Islamic aspirations of global supremacy.'' ''There is, and was, no sympathy towards Western philosophy, according to the extremists. Islam promises its one billion plus faithful the rule of the world, and what they have discovered is that they are at the bottom most wrung of the ladder as a result of their own failure. The rage of impotence combined with blind craving to manage the human race through the 'will of Allah' is what propels hatred within the fringe elements.
These Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Feisal Shazad, Ajmal Amir, Mohammad Siddiq Khan, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab are the children of Awlaki brain-washing; his 'new class' includes the Boston bombers, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Christmas Day “underwear bomber,” and Feisal Shazad, the Time Square perpetrator. This blind pursuit of orgy of killing is unsettling; amongst others he inspired Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter. Awalaki had commented after Christmas Day “underwear bomber” failed attempt as: ''Our unsettled account with America includes, at the very least, one million women and children. I’m not even talking about the men. Our unsettled account with America, in women and children alone, has exceeded one million. Those who would have been killed in the [attempted Christmas Day bombing] are a drop in the ocean.''
When it comes to jihad, there is an out-and-out war blubber calling out for the total destruction of the “infidels.” It is such hypocrites that destroy the psychological constancy of these immature men. The inadequate and vicious character of sermons changes the course of thoughts of many of many immature people. When debauchery and petty criminality become religious order of the day and bigots are authorised to replicate holiness, the only thing they can spew is blood and loathing. Most of these horrific incidents arise from the powerlessness to understand or figure out the connectivity of the world and importance of a free thinking mind to play its role as the channel of universal growth and human upliftment.
People have to understand that they need to approach this self-imposed ignorance and delusion of innocence with clear refutation; eliminate the prevalent culture of blaming others for their own failures. I just don’t see why should million of other young men suffer for crimes of these antiquated outmoded views. Peoples and parents have dreams too; to lead their children to a path of disparaging beliefs instead of peace and coexistence is so depraved. Living in the 21st century is existing with everybody; no exclusion can be possible on the basis of a radical strain.
"When falls on man the anger of the gods, first from his mind they banish understanding."
