@Ike, I saw your status of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, I refer to one of our discussions in 2002, I remember you highlighting the climb of the ghost of the 'tentacles of Racial Puritanism of Nazism.' How do you reconcile ascendancy of such a draconian thinking like that of Hitler with a culturally and rationally well-heeled country like Germany?
It is the 'Priest and Philosophers' that define the mind of intellectual leadership of a nation. I always ask people 'where are your philosophers and priests? They define the direction of your future generation! The calamity within the crescent of Political Islam is a comparable parallel today to what Germans faced from 1850 onward, that of a huge superiority complex of race and mind. In here we face a slightly different but same strain of a superiority complex of the triumph of the ultimate dogma what is known as the rupture, the Armageddon.
Most unluckily in Germany Gobineau's/Schopenhauer Aryan race ideas won over ideas and traditions of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe? Like 'Ayatollahs' won over and so did radical elements like Ibn Tamiyaah, Averroes lost out.
Yes, it is not easy to resolve human tradition of learning and elegance, erudition and richness of a culture like Germany's with human intrinsic Achilles' heel of supremacy of race and hatred. How come a homeland that produced a 'qualified sceptic' like Martin Luther, Immanuel Kant, Goethe, Beethoven and Mozart in a kind of knee jerk and a nippy aberration was adequately fixated enough to produce a chauvinistic, intolerant Hitler. One wonders 'What is the root of all this detestation and revulsion in Mein Kampf?'
It was the combination of the message of the 'Priest and the Philosopher.' Hitler's "superior" race ideas sound like an amalgamation of Biblical race laws and Gobineau's Aryan race ideas. Hitler demonstrated no clear philosophical erudition or refinement; he was an uncouth, loutish man. A philosopher who did have a huge influence on him was most likely Schopenhauer also mentioned in Mein Kampf. Hitler conscientiously read Schopenhauer's 'World as Will and Representation' and this book was with him throughout World War I.
Hitler best sums up his belief of Aryan superiority and his stand against the Jews with his declaration in Mein Kampf:
"I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord..""One blood demands one Reich."''...the German in Austria had really been of the best blood...""...the weakness of leadership will not cause a hibernation of the state, but an awakening of all the individual instincts which are present in the blood..."
In my opinion, one of the most detrimental books that has the utmost impact on the hideous rise of racial purity was a book by Joseph-Arthur de Gobineau who came up with the theory of the superior Aryan race in the 1800s in 'An Essay on the Inequality of the Human Races.'
Gobineau alleged that ethnic combination would bring about the decline of "superior" people. Gobineau inclined Richard Wagner who was liked by Hitler along with Houston Stewart Chamberlain. Wagner became a disciple of the Aryanist philosophy of Arthur de Gobineau. These are the people who influenced early National Socialism as mentioned in Mein Kampf.
Germans inopportunely fell into the trap and accepted Gobineau's ideas. It is our duty as 'foot soldiers of contemporary thought' not to allow this to happen again in any shape or kind. Hate, dogmatic puritanism are disasters, we need to resist them.
P.S.: Nazis were clever and employed Nietzsche's words to authenticate their ideas. In reality though, Nietzsche's ideas could not be more contrasting to those of the Nazis. Walter Kaufmann, in Nietzsche: Philosopher, Psychologist, Antichrist, writes that
"the Nazis were able to cite Nietzsche on racial questions only because . . . the complete sentences Nietzsche wrote down are masks of ideas that appear only in parentheses, subordinate sentences, and fragmentary quotations" (Kaufmann, 289).
